Abstract
The present research seeks to explain the relationship between Islamic wisdom (Hikmah) and decorative-geometric patterns in Islamic art. This study attempts to answer the question, "What is the wisdom behind decorative-geometric patterns in Islamic art?" by adopting a transhistorical perspective and referring to divine revelation (the Qur'an), which is the origin of this art. The author's hypothesis is that the formal richness and high capacity of geometric patterns in Islamic art to convey sapiential meanings stem from a profound thought system based on "revelation" and Islamic metaphysics, which underlies this pure abstract art. The present study aims to explain this thought and wisdom in Islamic art in general and its manifestation in decorative-geometric patterns in particular, using a descriptive-analytical method. The theoretical framework of this research is shaped by the views of traditionalist philosophers regarding Islamic art. The data collection method in this research has been library-based.
