This paper is a research on the jurisprudential ruling of lahw (amusement/vanity), and the origin of this discussion lies in the fact that some jurists, in various issues, invoke the prohibition of lahw to establish a ruling. In this research, after a conceptual analysis of lahw and related terms, the relevant verses and traditions (aḥādīth) are examined, and the conclusion reached is that lahw is not absolutely prohibited; rather, its prohibition is specific to that kind of lahw which leads to deviation in belief, or prompts the abandonment of obligations, licentiousness, and the commission of sins.
