Abstract
Privacy is one of the most important issues of citizenship rights, which has attracted the attention of political and social thinkers affiliated with various intellectual schools. This privacy is examined and debated, on the one hand, as a boundary for citizens' interference in each other's affairs, and on the other hand, as a limit on governmental authorities' interference in the affairs of those under their rule. The artist, both as a citizen and in terms of the oversight imposed upon him by the governing body, is inevitably bound to observe this privacy and its requirements. This article addresses the issue using a descriptive-analytical method and, by drawing upon the verses of the Holy Qur'an and the traditions of the Infallibles (peace be upon them), presents the perspective of the Islamic school and Imami jurisprudence on the status of privacy as a clear example of Islamic social ethics. This article demonstrates that privacy is a matter that must be observed by artists and may only be violated when it conflicts with a more important interest (maṣlaḥah). Of course, when the superiority of the conflicting interest is uncertain, the principle of prohibition (aṣālat al-ḥaẓr) applies and prevents the violation of the privacy in question.
